Impact of Information Technology on Students’ Academic Performance In ICT-Related Courses

The rapid advancement of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
has significantly transformed educational systems worldwide, enhancing
teaching and learning processes. This study investigates the impact of ICT on
students' academic performance in ICT-related courses at Federal University,
Dutse (FUD). A quantitative survey research design was adopted, and data were
collected using a self-developed questionnaire administered to 120 students
from the Faculty of Computing, comprising Computer Science, Cyber Security,
Information Technology, and Software Engineering students. Findings revealed
that FUD provides adequate ICT resources, including computers, projectors,
smart boards, and well-equipped computer laboratories. Statistical analysis
indicated a strong positive correlation between ICT adoption and academic
performance (r = 0.586, n = 120, p < 0.05), demonstrating that students who
actively utilize ICT tools perform better in their courses. The study concludes
that effective integration of ICT in teaching and learning enhances academic
outcomes. Thus, educators should prioritize ICT-based instructional strategies,
such as interactive digital assignments, online discussions, and collaborative
projects, to optimize student performance. Additionally, continuous investment
in ICT infrastructure and faculty training is recommended to sustain and
improve educational quality. This research contributes to the growing discourse
on ICT's role in academic success and provides insights for policymakers and
educators in fostering technology-driven learning environments.
