Prevalence of Scabies and Its Association with Percentage Body Fat Among Almajiri School Students in Zaria, Nigeria: A Cross-Sectional Study

Abstract

This study investigated the prevalence of scabies and its relationship with percentage body fat among selected Almajiri students in, Samaru, Zaria. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted among 100 male students aged 5–20 years using anthropometric measurements and clinical skin examination. Percentage body fat was estimated using BMI-derived equations and data analyzed using SPSS.Findings showed that 36% of students had scabies, while 64% were not affected. Only 12% were aware of scabies, whereas 88% lacked awareness. Body fat assessment revealed 18% underweight and 82% within normal range. Statistical analysis showed no significant association between percentage body fat and scabies prevalence (p>0.05)
