Abstract

This research article presents the relationship between selected geotechnical soil properties and the California bearing ratio value (CBRv). Geotechnical and foundation engineering are essential in civil, building, and construction engineering works to avert the settlement and collapse of structures. Twenty soil samples (Sse) were collected from four different Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin sites. Selected geotechnical and engineering index properties (plastic and liquid limits, particle size distribution, Consolidation, and CBR examinations) were determined utilizing standard techniques. Standard models that relate these selected properties to CBRv were developed and evaluated utilizing Microsoft Excel regression techniques. The study established that moisture content was between 9.24 and 29.04 %, liquid limit had a standard deviation of 6.457, Skewness of plastic limits was 0.913, Kurtosis of plastic index was 2.908, bearing capacity for square and circular footings was between 125.0 and 668.20; and 109.00 and 553.00 KNm-2, respectively. The correlation coefficient (R) between soaked and unsoaked CBRv was 2.137 and 1.180 for linear without intercept and linear with an intercept of 25.075. respectively. The relationship between CBRv and the bearing capacity of the soil was between fair to good. The study concluded that the relationship between CBRv and the bearing capacity of the soil was directly proportional with a coefficient of determination of 0.7798 and a correlation coefficient of 0.8831.
